Magglet Squats

So finally I got round to trying out the Vallejo express colours I picked up in York. I only picked up 3 red, yellow and green specifically for painting my Magglet squats in that ancient colour scheme.

So I've made up a Killteam of Veteran Guardsmen, or thereabouts, weapon choices were limited for special weapons so I've used one of the heavy weapons, and the two plasma guns done in different styles to use for gunners. Sniper, Sergeant with plasma pistol and power weapon (fist), Bruiser with the chainsword, Medic, demolitions and Comms just have backpacks attached, bolter, cyber arm for a second, and some pistols and a straight up lasgun to make up the rest of the numbers.

I did a  grey undercoat and then drybrushed up to white instead of the recommended zenithol spray painting/airbrushing that was in the video I watched. everything else was base colour and inks/washes.

Then the obligatory comparison shot of some of my other squats, originals, Hasslefree Grymm and the newer magglets.

Then a couple with some Imperial guard and old school marines. I never realised how big Chenkov was in comparison to the original Marines.
Next up, the last unit to finish off the 2nd army for Pikemans Lament, which will leave just spare units to switch in and out and the last of my current batch of Burrows and Badgers, City Watch and some extra's I picked up.

Sisters of Eternal Mercy

From Raging Heroes, the sisters of battle like option, a Full squad of Examplars and a half squad of Davidians which is enough for a bit of variety in a kill team force.

All resin, but so very flimsy feeling with a lot of flex still. The detail is fantastic but well beyond my painting skills to do justice so I'm not sure if I'd actually get any more in the future.

Epic Inquisition and catching up

So it's been many months since I last updated this, not because I haven't done anything, more that I just haven't gotten round to taking pictures of what I've done. So over the next few days I'll rectify that.

So up first the extra vehicles I did to finish off my Epic scale Inquisition force. This consists of civilian vehicles for the militia/crusade troops.  I've also got some Super heavy tanks, Leviathon, and a Capitol Imperialis that stand in for Emperor's Chapels, Cathedral of Purification and Black Cathedral.

Next up as no surprise to anyone will be some more Burrows and Badgers.

Some Recce for the NSL

Got some Team Yankee Lynx Recon vehicles on sale a while back to use for my 15mm NSL platoon.

Just need to keep an eye out for some tracked/wheeled APC's to finish off the full platoon, I'm thinking BMP, BRDM or maybe just some M113 types if I spot them cheap as still don't have rules to play them with.

SLA Industries Shivers

Anyone else remember SLA industries when it first came out as an RPG? Found out that they made a miniature game to go alongside it. Unfortunately found out about it round about the time they decided to  discontinue miniature manufacture.

So I ended up getting some Shivers and Carrion from their end of line sale. Here are the Shivers, they took an age to get done but they're finished now.  I've got a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff waiting to be finished, 15mm recce tanks and electric fences. Some 10mm Command Stands for BKC and a bunch of Burrows and Badgers and TYW started.

More Stargrave/Rogue Stars

I said before I had more Stargrave, Rogue Stars type aliens/captains/first mates etc to finish off. I got there eventually, they've been sat unfinished on the table for ages because I just couldn't get up the motivation to get them all finished off but got there eventually mostly because there was other stuff pushing that I actual want to get started on.

So the cultists from the Stargrave Nickstarter mixed in with some of the arms and guns from Stargrave sets. These will fill out the space cultists I did for Rogue Stars to a full crew for Stargrave.
Force users from Ganesha games, took the longest time to get done but will make great mystics, psionics.
First batch of CP Models for captains etc. more below with one Hasslefree. I need to make a decision at some point about finishing off the basing whether I stick them onto the resin bases, but that will require cutting them off tabs and hoping I can get enough contact for the glue to stick.
A couple more smaller models and even some scenery finished off for the next post, then decision making time for what to start on next. SLA Industries, Burrows and Badgers, Ragnarock, or Epic Dark Angels.

Prydian Lances

So finally finished off the other lance (Platoon) for my Prydians, I've had them sitting around for a while, but with us trying out the Patrol Angis rules finally it became a thing to get them finished.

Next for this I have a squad each of Khanate Legion and Maligs that I'd got for using in FireFight, but having read through the Khanate book I can use my Ikwen as Saurads and with the new Ikwen due to be released sometime this month, there will be more of them in the future maybe just not for a bit as the painting queue got dramatically bigger recently with the remainder of Stargrave, the last Burrows and Badgers kickstarter arriving and a bunch of Draugr as well.

Stargrave Crewfolk

So the reason this has taken so long is because I got about 40 resin bases which are all done, and here's the first 10 fitted up with models added, it's a mixture of Crew and Mercenaries which I got with 2 sprues of each after swaps.  I've gone for a grubby look with them as it's supposed to be an empire in ruins after a war. So muted colours and a dirty wash will do for now.  Once I've done some more to choose from including mainly a couple of Captain and first mate combinations I'll maybe come back and pick out some details to match.

I have a bunch of CP Models, some Psi knights from Ganesha games (via Alternative Armies) and a Hasslefree model that I need to do as well as the other 2 sprues at some point (some of which have been sitting around for a very long time).  I need to make a decision for the CP stuff whether to cut the slotta tabs off and glue them to the resin bases, I'll see how brave I'm feeling when I get there.

Werewolves and Stargrave

So I backed a Kickstarter a long time ago for some werewolves, probably the worst experience I've had with a kickstarter but at the same time still better than some because they did actually arrive.  So it was really late arriving due to a variety of issues one of the main ones being that due to some of these issues delaying delivery and rising postal rates within the period of the delays meant that the creators hadn't gained enough money off the kickstarter to actually post everything. Something that some companies would be able to absorb, but not something for such a small company.

From 3d sculpting to miniature casting isn't the easiest and I think something I hope they'll learn from as even some of the more experienced sculptors I know have had to go back and adjust models because they wouldn't cast.  The assembly for some of the models was horrific mostly because the bits just didn't fit together correctly or there was huge gaps.  Anyways Here's the first 4 painted up.

And finally here's a little bit of what else I've been working on. I have painted about 40 bases so far for Stargrave and made a start on some of the models (6 just need based, 10 assembled and undercoated, and 4 just undercoated) alongside a bunch of crates from 4Ground which are assembled but need the labels cut out and glued on. So there's lots almost there, but not close enough to photograph.

Epic Blood Angels

It took a while, but I got them finished eventually. It's about 4,000pts of Blood Angels for Epic Armageddon.

So these join the ranks of the Imperiam alongside my newly finished Inquisition/Ministorium force, Space Wolves and a lot of Imperial guard that really need to get tidied up properly.  That only leaves the Dark Angels to get finished off.

Some SciFi Adventurers

More Hasslefree, SciFi GID Alpha team for Rogue Stars and it's ilk.

And a more modern Bourne type spyfy from the last sale, hopefully I can pick up a few of the others at some point.

I'm almost thinking that I should go back to crappy lighting for my pictures so I can't see all the mistakes.

Grymm Squad

So another 28mm Squad of infantry. This time it's the Grymm infantry from Hasslefree.

I like the models, I just wish that now that I've figured out lighting for taking pictures that I hadn't given that it shows up so many errors in my painting that I can't see by normal eyesight.

Either way, they look fine in person.

Ikwen Pics and Buildings built

So I finished basing the Ikwen a while back but never got round to taking pics, so that's now been done because I have also finished some buildings. Ikwen up first, this is just a small sample as they are the unlimited force for the games but I have about 2 platoons worth in total I think.

I purchased a set of 15mm pre painted buildings from 4Ground and despite them being an utter pita to put together.  (I think the instructions would be far better served starting with the smaller buildings and working their way up to the biggest fiddliest building as the last one.

They went together okay in the end, but I did make a couple of mistakes along the way, some of the bits are really small and the labeling on the cutout sheets isn't the easiest to read and I did end up having to pry some pieces apart before the glue dried because I'd misread the label or what it applied to. The example being those little vents/air con units that you can see are 7 pieces and should have been 8, but I didn't successfully get the last piece out of the sheets for any of them.

Regardless these are all for use with Tomorrow's war/ambush alley/Force on Force Asymmetric warfare, played on a 2'x2' board in 15mm. Brigades polish force vs the indigenous Ikwen. I've still got bits to make up scenery wise, but I have forest bits, buildings, and I want to finish off more barricades, fencing, junk piles etc.

So 15mm done for a bit. back to bigger things for a bit.

Last Miniatures of the year

So again, not posted for a while, I've been busy tidying up and magnetizing my epic forces. This has involved a whole lot of painting of bases for vehicles as they never had them before. I'll get round to flocking the bases once I've finished tidying up and finishing the remainder of those additional marines and guard.

Space wolves, they've been done for a while so only needed the vehicles based for magnetizing.

Other marine forces, with some extra bits and pieces I can make both of these forces up to 2,000pt Epic forces without too much effort, but this is the box I'm currently working my way through.

Chaos forces, mostly Nurgle Death Guard with one detachment of Emperors Children. Again this was a pretty much previously finished force with just the bases to be added.

Imperial Guard and inquisitorial forces, the first pic is the inquisition force with marines subbed in for Covenant forces, Beastmen for planetary crusade and Bradley miniatures being used for Chimera's and armoured forces.

Other Imperial Guard units, still a bit of work to be done here but at least it's all been sorted out from the various bit boxes they've all been lying in.

There's still some other stuff on the painting table, some Burrows and Badgers and some Hasslefree fantasy models that I've just struggled to get on with, the epic stuff has been much easier to get my head into.

Brigade's Polish Platoon

So rather than getting birthday money and heading to Claymore as has been the norm for a while now, it was spend it on online orders instead, and this little group arrived and finally got finished a month and a bit later.

Brigades 15mm Polish infantry Platoon and an Indonesian APC as well as a small hover truck.
They'll be used for Ambush Alley/Tomorrows War engagements up against the Ikwen insurgents.

Next up will be some more Burrows and Badgers miniatures as I work through the remainder of the last Kickstarter. (Another 2-3 batches to go I think) But the painting table has the last of the cultists from Midlam on it, (casualties, Throne and beasties) as well as a chunk of Aztec styled scenery.

Epic Inquisition

In an effort to try and find a use for some of my other epic miniatures I decided to expand my 6mm Sci-fi force to make it up into an Inquisition force.

A lot of them are proxy obviously, so the marines on the right are Sisters of Battle, the Beastmen are redemptionist crusade, the Imperial Guard are actually Imperial Guard but with some Bradley Miniatures (through Alternative Armies) APC's instead of Chimera's and some really old Copeland Models in as Valkyries and Exorcists etc. There's also finally a use for my old Capitol Imperialis.

There are two lists in the version of Epic we use, Developmental and Experimental. I'm not using any of the outlandish stuff, most of it's the basic options that exist elsewhere in approved lists so should be fine on the table.

Tau

So finally the reason why everything ended up delayed, I always wanted some Tau models, they're great Sci-Fi models and can be fairly generic in comparison to most of the GW stable of miniatures. I picked up some from eBay in bits and bobs and the results are below.

It's taken ages to get them all painted up in a similar fashion and I did loads of other things alongside them, they've been on the table a few times as well playing Grim Dark Future (from One Page Rules).

6mm Sci-fi

Last set of catchup's for the moment is a more generic sci-fi force that I've been adding to from a variety of old Copeland models, Marines and Imperial Guard.

15mm Prydians

The colour scheme for this batch are based on the Blood Pack from Mass Effect. The models are Prydian army from Alternative Armies Ion Age.  I've used them before for Firefight (an ages old game from AA) But they will also be used for Tomorrows War and anything else that comes along.

It was really hard trying to get the pictures for these and the NSL troops, the yellow and red of them seems to pick up and reflect the light really badly for the camera.

15mm Ikwen

The low tech insurgents/rebels/downtrodden natives for our Ambush Alley games, we chose not to play the rules in the modern era as per the rules but to set them in a scifi setting.  I need to paint the scenery that I've made to go with this game but here is a quick shot of the Lizard Ikwen.
