End of year roundup

So this has been very bad year for a large number of reasons, but sticking to painting my focus is normally based on upcoming games which obviously haven't been happening.  But weirdly without that shifting focus for upcoming games I've somehow managed to complete several projects over the course of the year.

  • Blood Bowl (2nd edition) Orc and Human teams both finished.
  • 6mm epic Inquisition/imperial guard done.
  • 15mm Brigade Polish and Ikwen. (I still need to photograph the finished Ikwen force)
  • 28mm Tau Army for Grimdark Future.
  • 28mm Dungeon terrain.
  • Scale Scifi, finished off my second Full thrust fleet. (I did start a 3rd though, damm ebay)

All things considered that's actually pretty good going I think.  This coming year assuming we don't all die in an alien invasion or something I plan on getting the remainder of the terrain for the 15mm board finished.  I think I've got most of it together now, it just needs assembled and painted, other than perhaps some more scatter terrain.

Burrows and Badgers is a thing I would like to get everything finished before the next Kickstarter comes along, we'll see how that goes.

Finish off the 6mm epic marines, I need to buy a few things to finish off the Dark Angels and Blood Angels I've started from the remains of my bits box. I think I can get everything else I need from Vanguard and Alternative Armies and hopefully for under £30.

At some point GZG will finally get the new ESU fighters released, it's only been two years since I was told to wait for them, when that happens I'll see about getting an order together to get the fighters and bulk out the UNSC fleet I bought on Ebay.

Other stuff lying around, a small host of 28mm fantasy villagers, wizards, halflings, and adventurers from Hasslefree and Midlam that will need to get finished up and get the campaign (Thud and Blunder) written up properly.

Scifi models as well from Hasslefree, a squad or so of Grymm troopers and some extras for my Rogue Stars squads.

Longer term planning I'm still waiting on Pendrakon releasing the TB-Line Islamic Cavalry to finish off my Warmaster Arabs, and if that happens I'll need to dig through the box of Medievals to expand that army up to match.

It's a lot done and a lot still to do, but I think I'm finally starting to settle on a set of Game systems that I enjoy playing and would be happy to continue playing.  The only area I'm still a bit up in the air about is Scifi armies, 28mm or 15mm as I'm still not sure about Grimdark Future and I fell out of 40K because although I have decent sized armies they're not compatible/big enough any more also the feel of the game I used to like seems to have disappeared in recent editions from what I've seen, now whether that's just what I've observed through the eyes of the internet which I agree perhaps isn't the best of example I don't know, there's a lot of good talk about the newer editions of 40K, Gruntz is still something that I need to get round to trying out but again it's one of those that seems to have very mixed reviews.

Anyways enough rambling, time to get back to my beer.

Quarterly Update!

I like the idea of doing the blog to keep track of what I've been painting, but it just doesn't happen that I remember to take pictures as and when I complete stuff, so over the last few months I've been working on the following.

So first up we have the 10mm Finnish I got from Pendraken at the Leeds show. Based specifically so we can try them with Chain of Command to see if it will work in the smaller scale, these ones are finished, the rest have been based up and will be used with these ones for BKC.  Russians will be bought at Carronade and the same will be done with them.

Next up, there was a small resurrection of DBA at the club, and seeing as RiC and myself have been talking about it for a while, I finally got round to finishing off my 15mm Hordes of Things armies, I have Arabs and Undead, most of whom were already painted but needed tidying up and rebasing onto proper bases, all new MDF bases with magnetic strips on the bottom so they'll stick to a biscuit tin. I have a bunch of Dwarves, Medieval Humans, and Celts that need worked on and I have some Romans already.

This next set are the 28mm WW2 Germans, I got one squad for christmas, the rest I picked up second hand from ebay, 2 squads finished, 1 more to go and then buy some support options for playing Chain of Command.

Lastly for this update my Skaven warband for the next Mordheim campaign at the club, painted up differently to Fi's Skavan so I can claim these ones.

More to come at some point, I bought Blood Eagle when it came out and I'll no doubt get a few more Vikings for it, as well as playing with some of the more mythical warbands from it will likely see some of my Elves getting a tidy up as Sidhe and some dwarves as well.

Likewise on the new rules front Sharp Practice 2 is finally on the horizon and preordered so that means a concerted push to get my forces painted up for it. I keep hoping that I'll be able to pick up some prepainted Napoleonics at the Carronade flea market really cheaply, but I doubt that's going to happen as I really hate painting formal uniforms.

Been a While

It's been a while since I last posted up on here. I have been busy with stuff, but mostly all small bits and pieces of projects.

Frostgrave seems to have piqued everyone's interest so I dug out all my unused wizards from my collection and set about pairing them off and painting them up.  Orc Warband at the bottom as well.

I've been working on my little 10mm Fort, just needs a gate made, drybrushing to make the woodwork not so flat and flock the ditch area.
I've also managed to complete my ww2 stuff, (Pictures to come of the British Airborne) But here's a test one of my Foundry Home Guard.

I've also finally sorted through my 6mm Moderns and based up my Modern Soviets.

Not sure if I'm going to keep them or put them into the bring and buy at Claymore. I may have to get through more of my extended stash before I do that. However I also have these and I have no idea what they are.

Any Ideas?

Lastly, it's been Malifaux, got my hands on 2 crews, Rasputina and The Kin. They're all assembled but need to wait and see how the painting goes.

Update Time

As was mentioned at Mondays game, been a bit since I last updated. I'd been busy trying to get my Impetus army ready for the tournament so it was all hands to the pumps for that one. In the end with the exception of 1 unit of Teutonics which I couldn't finish because of a lack of spray paint, Hobbycraft didn't have any black and GW with it's really stupid opening times meant I couldn't get any so I ended up borrowing a stand of knights from Dax as well as the javelin skirmishers to replace my proxied bowmen. (I want to pick up the GBP dark age box to get javelins etc and they'll provide all the unarmoured for my Viking stuff as well)

Either way, with only highlights (I stopped after base coat and wash) and basing to finish off completely here's my Teutonics for Impetus.

Or at least it would be if I could figure out how to put pictures up, I can't find a browse option, I think I need to upload everything to google docs and then select them from there? Any ideas anyone?

In other projects a good portion of the 10mm Saracens are now based and undercoated, mostly infantry and a 2 units of camels, need to get some Cavalry from Old Glory before that lot can get based up.

Finished off some of my command and misc units for BKC, FAO's etc. Pic's to follow at a later date (See above).

Just finished converting one of my Novices for the Mordheim Campaign I'm playing in at the club, just adding an extra hammer seeing as she found some talent from somewhere, it probably should have been as a seamstress or something, but that's maybe how the sisters pulled the Elf Ranger in to help them out in the wilderness so far away form their monastery.

Will try and get a picture of the warband put together at somepoint as well. I'm thinking as a little project to try and figure out the settings I need on the wife's SLR that I should over the coming months, dig out and photograph all my armies etc. Though it does sound like an awful lot of work it could case some fruitless inspiration of "Oooh, I want to try playing that game again" But it'll also serve as a chance to sort through some of the crap I have sitting in boxes that I'll never use, like the 6mm ancients and moderns, and the 28mm ECW stuff I have.(Which I think may actually be lead)

Starting Up

Well it's been a while since I did anything major wargaming wise. I've just joined the local wargames club having not done an awful lot over the last 7 years or so. A few campaigns of Mordheim over that time and a handfull of WFB games is about it.

Now I'm planning out what I want to get started on for the future after starting a 10mm WW2 army, so here's going.

Plans:
WW2 finish off 10mm Germans, got some trucks and half track transports,
Need more tanks, artillery and some bikes to use for recce.

Impetus
Still thinking about this one, started making sabot bases today so I can use my existing collection, something medievally in 28mm. Will likely get more later, but wether that will be for this period or ECW i'm not sure.

Warmaster
10mm crusades to be purchased, Crusaders for me, Saracens for her.

Stargrunts/Gruntz or something.
15mm scifi. Need to start buying, probably GZG infantry but this is lowest on the priority list right now.

We'll see how this goes through the year, budget is tight due to living in London for the upcoming Paralympics so most of this will likely kick into gear late in the year or next.
